Egypt travel essentials05 useful answers
Safety depends on your route and the latest official advice—not a blanket yes or no. Check your government’s guidance and insurance cover before booking. Advice differs by region and nationality, including for parts of the Western Desert.
For Bahariya and White Desert trips, UK guidance specifies advance permits and an official guide. Confirm the exact route, required permissions and guide arrangements with your operator. Recheck advice before departure, and follow local instructions throughout your journey.
It depends on your nationality and passport. Eligible travelers can apply through Egypt’s official e-Visa portal; others should check with an Egyptian embassy or consulate before making travel plans.
The portal requires a passport valid for at least six months from arrival and asks you to apply at least seven days before departure. Carry your e-Visa printout and itinerary or accommodation details. Recheck the rules for your passport before traveling; an approved visa does not guarantee admission.
For a trip focused on sightseeing and the desert, November to April is a useful starting point for milder weather. Egypt’s tourism authority identifies this as the country’s moderate winter season.
Choose dates around your route and preferred activities, rather than one “best” month for all of Egypt. Summer travel needs extra attention to heat and time outdoors. For a camping journey, discuss overnight conditions and suitable layers with Zizo before you pack.
Bring loose, breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes and sun protection. A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are useful, while layers help you adapt to changing conditions.
Pack clothing that covers your arms and legs for religious sites, and a warmer layer for cooler weather or a desert overnight. For a safari, also consider a small daypack, a torch and a power bank. Ask Zizo what camping equipment your chosen trip includes, so you bring what you need without packing twice.
As a planning suggestion, allow around 7–10 days for Cairo and one or two additional experiences—not all of Egypt. The right length depends on your arrival time, interests and travel pace.
A possible starting point is 2–3 days for Cairo and Giza, plus a 3-day White Desert safari from Cairo. Siwa works better with its own 4-day block, including the road journey. Adding all three areas needs more time, plus room for flights and rest. Zizo can help you choose what fits, rather than rush everything.
Suggested pacing, not a fixed package or a booking commitment.
